Screenshot to text, without saving a file.
Last updated: October 2, 2026 · Free online tool and Chrome extension by Gallera Studio
Image to Text OCR turns a screenshot into editable text. Take the screenshot to your clipboard, open the popup, paste it with Ctrl+V or ⌘V, copy the text. Nothing is saved to disk and nothing is uploaded. It also works on this page: press Ctrl+V with a screenshot in the clipboard.

Steps
Take a screenshot to the clipboard
Windows: Win+Shift+S, then select the area. Mac: ⌘⇧⌃4, then select the area. The screenshot lands in the clipboard, not in a file.
Open the popup
Click the extension icon, or press Alt+Shift+O (⌥⇧O on Mac).
Paste
Press Ctrl+V or ⌘V inside the popup. The text appears in the preview; if the screenshot contains a table, a second tab shows it as rows and columns.
Copy
Click Copy text or Copy as table and paste wherever you need it.
Good to know
- A screenshot of a web page can often be skipped: right-click the image directly on the page instead.
- Small screenshots are enlarged before recognition, so 11-pixel text from a chat still reads correctly in most cases.
- Dark-mode screenshots (light text on a dark background) work too.
Questions
Can I drag a screenshot file instead of pasting?
Yes. Drop the PNG or JPEG onto the popup, or click Choose file.
Does the screenshot get stored?
No. It is processed in memory and discarded. The last result stays in the popup for ten minutes so you can copy it again, then it is gone.
What about a screenshot of a table?
Use the Table tab and Copy as table. Pasted into Google Sheets or Excel, each value lands in its own cell.
