"Image to Text OCR: copy text and tables" is a Chrome extension by Gallera Studio. It runs entirely in your browser: the recognition engine, the language models and the PDF reader are packaged inside the extension. The extension has no server of its own, collects no analytics, and does not send your data to the developer or to third parties.
What data is used and why
- The image you right-click. When you choose "Copy text" or "Copy as table", the extension loads that image from its own address (the same place your browser already loaded it from) and recognises the text on your device. If the image cannot be loaded directly, the extension takes a picture of the visible part of the current tab, cuts out the image and recognises that. The image and the capture are processed in memory and discarded when the job is done. Nothing happens unless you pick a menu item.
- Files you drop into the popup. Images and PDFs you choose, drag in or paste with Ctrl+V are processed on your device in the same way. They are not stored and not transmitted.
- Clipboard. The recognised text or table is written to your clipboard. The clipboard is never read; pasting with Ctrl+V into the popup is handled by your browser and only hands the extension the file you pasted.
- Settings. Your recognition language is stored in Chrome's sync storage. The last popup result is kept in session storage for ten minutes so it survives closing the popup, then it is discarded.
The tool on this website
The home page can read an image or PDF you drop, paste or choose there. It uses the same engine as the extension: the engine files are downloaded from this site into the page, and the recognition runs in your browser. The file itself is not uploaded, stored or sent anywhere, and the page keeps no record of it. Where the extension can be installed, the page allows three reads a day; to count them it keeps the times of today's reads in your browser's local storage. That count never leaves your browser, and clearing site data removes it.
Network
The extension makes no network requests other than loading the image you right-clicked, from the address where it is published. No text, image or usage data is sent to Gallera Studio or to anyone else. Chrome may open a short page on this site when you uninstall the extension; visiting it is optional and it contains no tracking.
Permissions
The extension asks for six permissions and for no access to websites: contextMenus (the right-click items), activeTab (read the clicked image or capture the visible tab, only after your click), scripting (locate the image and show a short confirmation on the page), offscreen (run the engine and write to the clipboard), storage (settings) and clipboardWrite.
What the extension does not do
- It does not read the content of web pages, your browsing history, or other tabs.
- It does not send data to the developer. There is no backend.
- It does not sell or share data with third parties.
Deleting your data
Uninstall the extension: the language setting and any temporary result are removed with it.
